"Cappella Sistina" is an essential stop during your visit of the Vatican. The cardinals use to meet here to elect the new Pope It owes its n ame to Pope Sixtus IV who commissioned and bad it built between 1477 and 1481. From 1480 till 1483 the side walls were decirated with frescoes by the most famous artist of the Renaissance, amoung them Botticelli, Ghirlandaio and Perugino: on the left wall the life of Moses is depicted and on the right wall the life of Jesus is also depict, between the windows there are the portraits of 24 popes. After twenty years, in 1508 Julius 11 commissioned to Michelangelo the frescoes of the vault. It took four years for him to complete that work, with the predominant theme being the creation of the universe, inspired by Genesis 1, in nine fields. In the lunettes he depicted Prophets and Sibyls. The Final Judgement was completed in 1527 during the Sack of Rome, an event that strongly influenced the artist.God appears a mardless, had judge of manking. The fresco is full of characters, several of them in the nude (later such figures, considered to he scandalous, were censored by the Trento's Condl)
