It was obtained between 1885 and 1911 during the construction of the Vittoriano from the extension of a previous little square whith was bordered to the West by Palazzo Venezia, and which was then disassembled and rebuilt further down, close to the San Marco basilica.The square is centered on Via del Corso and has a rectangular shape measuring 130 by 70 metres Many palaces and lanes were thus destroyed in order to allow the construction of this monumentalsquare.The "Palazzetto delle Assicurazioni Generali" di Venezia was artfully built in front of the Palazzo di Venezia. |
